Matcha Ritual Guide

How to create a simple matcha ritual at home

A good matcha moment does not need to feel complicated. With the right tools, the process becomes calm, tactile, and easy to repeat.

1. Warm the bamboo whisk

Warm the bamboo whisk

Use water around 80°C, soak the bamboo whisk for 5 minutes.

Stick with 80°C hot water for all subsequent steps.

2. Sift your matcha

Overall powder-to-water ratio: 1:10 (a little extra water is fine).

Take 5g matcha powder, use a fine mesh sifter to break up clumps before adding water. This helps the matcha whisk more smoothly.

3. Add warm water

Add warm water

Use warm water (around 15ml, 80°C) rather than boiling water to help preserve a smoother taste and brighter color.

Stir until it forms a lump-free paste.

4. Whisk with intention

Vigorously whisk to create foam.

Quickly pour in roughly 40ml hot water.

Press the whisk against the bottom of the bowl and whisk rapidly in an M-shaped motion.

5. Refine the surface foam

Keep the whisk lifted off the bowl base.

Whisk in mid-air, still following the M-shaped stroke.

6. Protect your whisk

After rinsing, place the whisk on its holder so it can dry while keeping its shape.

Make it yours

Enjoy it straight, pour it over milk, or build a quiet morning routine around it. The ritual is the point: a few minutes that feel beautiful and fully yours.
